Last year the national portrait gallery put on a show in honour of The selfie. It included artists from the US and Europe such as Jennifer Chan, Bunny Rogers and Jesse Darling. The exhibition is an interesting take on the selfie as it portrays them as a moving image rather then the typical still image. The show is curated by Kyle Chayka and Marina Galperina. They picked the theme selfie (the omnipresent slang for digital self-portraits) found across all social networks and mention how today the genre of self portrait is so popular as it belongs to anyone with the access to a camera. The selfie is as omnipresent as the smartphone and as diverse as humanity itself. They also encouraged visitors to contribute to their instagram, twitter and vine social media pages which reflects on what an interactive show it was.
